Derek Gores is an American contemporary artist celebrated for his striking collage portraits, which transform discarded magazines, maps, and printed materials into richly layered works of art. Born in New York in 1971, Gores earned his BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design in 1993. His distinctive process combines the precision of portraiture with the spontaneity of collage, revealing remarkably detailed imagery from a distance and a captivating world of unexpected fragments up close.

Recognized as part of the New Contemporary Movement, Gores draws on the legacies of Pop Art, Dada, and Surrealism, blending familiar imagery with playful discoveries and unexpected connections. His work has been exhibited internationally, including in Los Angeles, Paris, and Miami, and he received his first solo museum exhibition, Local Edition, at Florida’s Foosaner Art Museum in 2018–2019.

Through his inventive use of everyday materials, Gores challenges perceptions of what art can be, inviting viewers to look closer and discover something new with every encounter.
