Jamali
Artist Information
A pioneering figure in contemporary art, Jamali is a New York-based artist known for his visionary paintings that explore the intersection of spirituality, ancient traditions, and modern consciousness. His richly layered surfaces, symbolic imagery, and innovative techniques have established him as a distinctive voice in contemporary expressionism.
Jamali is recognized for developing “Mystical Expressionism,” a unique artistic approach that merges the physicality of contemporary painting with timeless spiritual traditions. Renowned art critic Donald Kuspit identified this singular method as a significant contribution to contemporary art. His works incorporate dreamlike figures, mythic symbols, and enigmatic inscriptions, inviting contemplation through a visual language that exists between abstraction and representation.
Born in Peshawar, Pakistan, Jamali’s artistic vision is influenced by Eastern philosophies, Sufi traditions, and his studies in modern physics and engineering. Throughout his career, he has pioneered unconventional techniques including painting with his feet, fresco tempera, pigment on cork, and pigment dispersion.
Jamali’s work has earned international recognition among collectors and has been the subject of extensive scholarship, including two Rizzoli International publications exploring his artistic practice. With more than 100 solo exhibitions across major art markets including New York, Boston, Chicago, Miami, and Palm Beach, his paintings are held in thousands of private and corporate collections worldwide.
